New Delhi, Dec. 16 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday was informed by the union of India that a stakeholder meeting will be convened to address the issue of victim compensation in cases involving so-called "digital arrest" scams.
A Bench comprising Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi was hearing a suo motu matter initiated by the Court to deal with the growing menace of digital arrest frauds.
During the hearing, Senior Advocate N.S. Nappinai, appearing as amicus curiae, suggested the formulation of a victim compensation mechanism on the lines of the United Kingdom's model for Authorised Push Payment (APP) scams, which provides for mandatory reimbursement to victims through banking channels.
