New Delhi, July 23 -- Taking a serious view over the delay of filing appeals, the Supreme Court on Friday directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to establish a dedicated technology to monitor the filing of appeals.

A Bench comprising Justices DY Chandrachud and MR Shah was hearing an appeal filed 647 days after the verdict given by High Court.

The bench observed that delays on the part of the probe agency officers in doing so within stipulated time give rise to "grave misgivings" as regards the reasons for the delay.

The top court asked the CBI Director to ensure that steps are taken on the administrative side for timely filings through an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) platform.
