New Delhi, June 2 -- The Supreme Court today agreed to urgently list a plea filed by two journalists who alleged they were assaulted by Madhya Pradesh police officials in retaliation for their reporting on illegal sand mining activities, often referred to as the 'sand mafia'.

The matter was mentioned before a bench comprising Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, who questioned why the petitioners had not approached the Madhya Pradesh High Court for relief.

"Should we entertain all-India anticipatory bail matters only because a journalist is involved?" Justice Sharma asked during the hearing.
