Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), April 10 -- Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy has sought a high-level probe into incidents of fish deaths in the Subarnarekha river near Babudih and a pond in Dhatkidih in East Singhbhum district.

Roy urged the deputy commissioner to order an independent inquiry, alleging that findings of the Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board are "superficial" and lack credibility.

He said, "It is necessary to examine what pollutants are entering the environment in Jamshedpur, leading to contamination of water bodies and fish deaths."According to the Pollution Control Board, the deaths were caused by reduced oxygen levels in water.
