Sao Paulo, May 5 -- Sao Paulo midfielder Lucas Moura underwent surgery on Monday to repair a ruptured Achilles tendon in his right leg, the Brazilian club said.
The 33-year-old former Brazil international suffered the injury late in Sao Paulo's 2-2 home draw with Bahia in Brazil's Serie A on Sunday.
"The procedure, carried out by the team led by Doctor Moises Cohen, was successful and the player is expected to be discharged from hospital on Tuesday, remaining at home to rest duringthe initial days of recovery before beginning physiotherapy at the club," read a Sao Paulo statement on Tuesday.
