Hyderabad, Feb. 19 -- Dr B R Ambedkar Open University on Thursday celebrated the 287th birth anniversary of Sant Sevalal Maharaj at its campus, with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani describing him as a great advocate of non-violence and a humanitarian who worked tirelessly for the upliftment of the Banjara community.

Addressing the gathering, Prof Chakrapani said Sant Sevalal laid the foundations of non-violence to bring dignity and self-respect to the Banjara community and was revered as a deity by Banjaras.

He noted that Sant Sevalal lived an ideal life centuries ago and was also a visionary environmentalist, whose foresight remained relevant even today. He urged the youth to take Sant Sevalal as an inspiration.
