Patna, Nov. 14 -- Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary won the Tarapur Assembly seat and his victory has again highlighted the family's long standing influence in the constituency.

According to the final count, Samrat Choudhary defeating RJD candidate Arun Kumar by 45,543 votes. Choudhary secured 1,22,480 votes while Arun Kumar received 76,637 votes.

Tarapur has long been considered a stronghold of Samrat Choudhary's father and former MP Shakuni Choudhary. For nearly 25 years, Shakuni Choudhary maintained his dominance over this seat. He won the Tarapur Assembly elections in 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000, February 2005 and October 2005.
