SAHIBGANJ, Dec. 16 -- : Udhwa Bird Sanctuary in Jharkhand's Sahibganj district has been declared a Ramsar site, making it the state's first wetland to receive the international recognition. Spread over 565 hectares, the sanctuary has emerged as a major safe zone for migratory birds, with enhanced protection and visitor facilities following the Centre's notification.

According to forest officials, the Ramsar tag has led to tighter surveillance to curb poaching and disturbance. The entire wetland is now monitored through 10 CCTV cameras, two PTZ cameras and drone surveillance, all connected wirelessly and powered by solar panels. A dedicated control room has been set up to monitor activities across the lake area.
