Chandigarh, Sept. 9 -- The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has announced it will abstain from the vice-presidential election, citing devastating floods in Punjab as its primary concern. The party, which holds a single parliamentary seat, stated that its lone MP, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, will not participate in the voting process.
Harsimrat, representing Bathinda, is the wife of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal. She emphasised the party's commitment to aiding flood-affected communities in Punjab. "When thousands of families are displaced, crops destroyed, and people are struggling for basic necessities, our duty lies in helping those in distress rather than engaging in elections," the party said in a statement.
