Kochi, April 16 -- In a significant turn in the ongoing Sabarimala case, proceedings before a nine-judge Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court witnessed the Travancore Devaswom Board strongly defending the traditional practices of the Sabarimala Temple, with SJR Kumar, General Secretary, Sabarimala Karma Samithi, describing the development as a major shift in the legal approach to religious freedom.

Appearing for the Board, senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi argued that the customs associated with the shrine of Lord Ayyappa are protected under the Constitution and form an essential part of the faith of millions of devotees.
