Mumbai, March 25 -- The rupee on Tuesday declined by eight paise to close in red at 85.72 against US Dollar due to persistent demand for the greenback from foreign banks and importers, dealers at the Forex Market said.
After posting a huge gain of 34 paise on Monday, the local unit eased by two paise at 85.66 in opening session. No major fluctuation was seen throughout the day, as it edged lower by eight paise to close negative at 85.72 as compared to its previous close.
The rupee recorded intraday high and low at 85.62 and 86.74, respectively, dealers added.
