Mumbai, May 6 -- Erasing previous day's gains, the Rupee on Tuesday tumbled down by 18 paise to close negative at 84.43 against US Dollar amidst sustained demand for the greenback from foreign banks and exporters, dealers at the Forex Market said.
The domestic unit which had surged by 28 paise on Monday, eased by seven paise to 84.32 in opening session, and continued its downward trend till the end of the session to settle at 84.43, dipping by 18 paise as compared to its previous close.
The strengthening of American currency against other world currencies coupled with negative close of local stock market pushed the rupee down, dealers informed.
