Mumbai, June 27 -- The rupee today appreciated further by 21 paise at 85.49 in the opening session on weak dollar demand by bankers and importers, amid easing crude oil prices, forex traders said.

A positive opening in the domestic equity markets also helped the rupee to gain, traders added.

The currency opened 20 paise higher at 85.50 against the dollar. It closed the previous session at 85.70.

The partially convertible rupee recorded intra-day highs and lows at 85.46 and 85.57, respectively, dealers added.
