Mumbai, May 26 -- The rupee remained firm on Monday too, rising by 12 paise to close at 85.16 against US Dollar on brisk sell-off of the greenback by foreign bankers, dealers at the Forex Market said.

The local unit gained by 24 paise to 85.04 in opening session and remained strong throughout the day. In late trade, it pared earlier gains, but finished positive at 85.16, surging by 12 paise as compared to its previous close.

Persistent dollar selling by foreign banks and and robust close of domestic stock markets also supported the rupee sentiment.

The partially convertible rupee recorded day's high and low at 85.00 and 85.20 per USD, respectively, dealers added. UNI NV SS
