Mumbai, May 13 -- The rupee on Tuesday ended flat at 85.42 against USD on fresh selling of US dollars from foreign banks and importers, dealers at the Forex Market said.

The local unit had spurted 80 paise at 84.62 in the opening session, erased all gains and finished today at 85.42 against USD.

High oscillation was seen during the day; as soon as the market opened, it rallied 80 paise. As the session passed, it was reversed back and ended on a flat note. The sliding equity market also impacted the Indian currency.

The rupee recorded days' high and low at 84.56 and 85.48, respectively, the dealer added.
