New York, Aug. 26 -- Russia's Andrey Rublev, Norway's Casper Ruud and home favourite Frances Tiafoe all registered straight-sets wins today IST to advance to the second round of the US Open.
World No. 15 seed Rublev, a four-time quarterfinalist here, defeated Croatian qualifier Dino Prizmic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in his opener. Rublev converted all three break points he earned - one in each set - and closed out the two-hour contest with a forehand volley winner.
The 27-year-old, now with 25 career wins at the US Open, will meet American wild card Tristan Boyer in the next round.
Former finalist Casper Ruud, who reached the 2022 title clash in New York, cruised past Austria's Sebastian Ofner 6-1, 6-2, 7-6(5) on Louis Armstrong Stadium.
