Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 21 -- The oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected Thiruvananthapuram Corporation council on Sunday became a political flashpoint after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillors sang 'Gana Geetham', inside the council hall soon after the swearing-in. 'Gana Geetham', is a prayer associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)A total of 100 councillors were sworn in, including 50 from the BJP, 29 from the Left Democratic Front (LDF), 19 from the United Democratic Front (UDF), and two independents. Immediately following the formal proceedings, BJP councillors stood and rendered Gana Geetham, a devotional song beginning with the words 'Parama Pavitram'.
