Chennai, March 9 -- All the six candidates -- four from the ruling DMK-led Front and two belonging to the Opposition AIADMK-led NDA were on Monday declared elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Since theirs were the only nominations filed, all the six nominees were declared elected unopposed by the Returning Officers on the last date for withdrawals, today.

The Returning Officers also handed over the election certificates to them announcing their victory in the polls.

Except candidates of the DMK and AIADMK none others could contest the March 16 polls as a candidate needed the support of at least 34 MLAs in the Assembly and their candidature has to be proposed by 10 MLAs.
