Chennai, March 23 -- The 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) got off to a quiet start, without any fanfare or glitzy opening ceremony, as the Rs 20 crore budget earmarked for it, was donated to the Armed forces in the wake of the Pulwama terror attack, in which 40 CRPF soldiers were martyred. The estimated cost of hosting an IPL opening ceremony was Rs 20 crore and the tournament kicked off on Saturday with a heavy weight contest between holders and three time winners Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) led by stalwarts M S Dhoni and Virat Kohli respectively.
