Lucknow, Nov. 7 -- The Railway Protection Force (RPF) carried out a major anti-encroachment drive in the Mawaiya area of UP's state capital on Friday, demolishing several illegal structures built on railway land. A bulldozer was used to raze multiple shops occupying the land for years.
A heavy police force was deployed in the area and traffic movement was temporarily restricted.
Sources said the land had been under illegal occupation by local shopkeepers for a long time. The RPF had issued prior notices to the occupants, instructing them to vacate the property. However, when they failed to comply within the given time, the demolition drive was initiated on Friday morning.
