Chandigarh, Nov. 4 -- Punjab Congress chief and MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring's alleged derogatory remark on former union home minister Boota Singh has triggered a political row.

Warring's remark came at a rally in Tarn Taran where a by-election is due on November 11.

Despite Warring's public apology, the issue continues to draw sharp reactions. The Punjab SC/ST Commission has taken suo motu cognizance and sought Warring's response by November 6.

Members of the Valmiki community have announced a protest in Jalandhar, condemning the remark.

Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that legal action would be pursued against Warring and urged the Congress leadership to remove him from the party.
