Mumbai, Sept. 12 -- A political row has erupted between parties in Maharashtra and Karnataka over the proposed renaming of a metro station in Bengaluru's Shivaji Nagar locality after St Mary.
The controversy began after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah reportedly assured Archbishop Peter Machado on September 8 that the government would "positively consider" naming the upcoming Pink Line metro station after St Mary. According to reports, the proposal was initiated by local Congress MLA Rizwan Arshad, who said the move would honour the "iconic St Mary's Basilica, which has a rich history" and is located near the station.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has condemned the move as an "insult to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj." S...
