Shillong, April 21 -- Church bells rang out across Meghalaya on Monday evening mourning the death of Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church.
Catholic faithful rushed to churches to pray and express their grief on hearing the sudden demise of the 88-year-old Pope Francis on Easter Monday after battling with serious bouts of pneumonia.
Most Rev. Victor Lyngdoh, who was appointed as Archbishop of Shillong Archdiocese by Pope Francis on December 28, 2020, described the demise of the first Latin American pontiff as a "great loss to the Church and the entire world".
He also announced a Requiem Mass for Pope Francis in Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians, Shillong on Tuesday (April 22) at 5.30 p.m.
