Srinagar, Aug. 27 -- Authorities in Kashmir today sounded flood alert after water levels in river Jhelum at Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar, crossed the danger mark following two days of incessant rains.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, said field teams have been deployed to monitor the situation round-the-clock, and contingency plans are in place.
"People are advised to remain cautious and avoid venturing near water bodies," he cautioned.
While the water level of Jhelum has started receding at Sangam in south Kashmir, independent weather forecasters have warned that levels are likely to rise further in Srinagar until eveningbefore gradually decreasing.
