Lahlari (HP), Oct. 2 -- Farmers in the lower regions of Himachal Pradesh are earning lakhs of rupees by cultivating off season vegetables and cash crops along with wheat, maize and paddy.
Kamlesh Kumar Patial of Lahlari village near Hamirpur city, a retired principal, has set an example by achieving success in vegetable farming with the support from various government schemes.
After retirement, Patial shifted from traditional crops to cash crop cultivation. With assistance from the Agriculture Department, the JICA project, and the Horticulture Department, he fenced his land under the Chief Minister's Farm Protection Scheme, receiving an 80 percent subsidy.
