Ch. Sambhajinagar, Nov. 21 -- A retired police officer has alleged that public information officers are misinterpreting an official circular to wrongfully deny information sought under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.

Dr Riaz Deshmukh, a former assistant commissioner of police from Aurangabad, said officers were incorrectly citing a government circular dated August 25, 2022, to refuse information by claiming matters are pending, even though the circular contains no such restriction.

The circular, numbered Miscellaneous (2021/P.Kr.48/R.K.A), states that information must be preserved when an appeal is pending to ensure that documents are not misplaced or lost.
