Aizawl, May 30 -- A retaining wall collapsed at Thuampui locality on the northern fringe of Aizawl city early Friday claiming the life of a 37-year-old man, while his companion narrowly escaped with serious injuries, as Mizoram grapples with the havoc unleashed by relentless monsoon rains and gusty winds since Thursday, police said.
According to police, the victim, Lalnunmawia (37) from Tlungvel village in Aizawl district, and his friend, Lalfakzuala (35) of Ramthar Veng in Aizawl, had been sleeping inside an abandoned makeshift shelter formerly used by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) labourers when the stone retaining wall adjacent to the hut gave way at around 7:50 AM on Friday.
