Guwahati, March 5 -- Amidst reports of closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to the ongoing military conflict between Iran and the USA-Israel alliance, the prospect of India's tea exports looks grim, industry bodies said on Thursday.

President, Tea Association of India (TAI), Shailja Mehta said the Strait of Hormuz has always been a critical passage for export of all Indian commodities, but more particularly in the case of export of tea to countries located within the Persian Gulf.

She said that Indian exports to countries such as Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia (Eastern ports in the Gulf), Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates pass via the Strait of Hormuz.
