Rio De Janeiro, Sept. 25 -- Renato Gaucho has stepped down as manager of Fluminense after the Brazilian club's elimination from the Copa Sudamericana.

In a statement, Fluminense said assistants Alexandre Mendes and Marcelo Salles had also tendered their resignations.

"The club thanks the professionals for all their dedication throughout their tenure and wishes them success in their careers," read a statement on the club's official website on Wednesday.

It added that former Fluminense midfielder Marcao would assume the job on an interim basis untila permanent replacement is named.
