Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 5 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall, exceeding 20 cm in 24 hours, in the districts of Thrissur, Ernakulam and Idukki in Kerala on August 5.

These districts are also likely to experience heavy rainfall in the range of 7 to 11 cm and very heavy rainfall between 12 and 20 cm during the same period.

On August 5, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Palakkad and Malappuram will be under an Orange Alert, while Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod and Lakshadweep will be under a Yellow Alert.
