Chandigarh, Oct. 18 -- This Diwali, sweets prepared by inmates of Chandigarh's Model Jail in Burail have seen an unprecedented surge in demand.
According to jail authorities, daily sales exceeded one lakh rupees during the festive week, a significant jump from the usual thirty thousand rupees per day recorded in previous years.
Officials said that all sweets prepared by the inmates were sold out by noon every day. At the "Nav-Srijan" outlet in Sector 22, long queues of customers could be seen waiting to purchase the popular jail-made sweets.
The sweets are prepared using milk supplied by Verka, with khoya produced inside the jail under strict hygiene and quality standards.
