Prayagraj, Feb. 17 -- Indian Railways set a new record during this year's Magh Mela in Prayagraj by operating 1,067 special trains to manage the unprecedented rush of pilgrims.
According to official figures, more than 220 million devotees took a holy dip at the Sangam during the religious congregation.
To handle the massive turnout, the Railways operated over 1,000 special trains for the first time in the history of the Magh Mela. Railway officials said that between January 2 and February 15, a total of 9,135 trains were run, including 8,068 regular services and 1,067 special trains. In previous editions of the Magh Mela, the number of special trains had never exceeded 400.
