Darjeeling, Sept. 12 -- At least 4 people were killed and another sustained critical injuries after a landslide triggered by heavy rains struck the western part of Sikkim, official sources said.

Police and local residents today launched a massive search operation in the early hours to locate any survivors buried under rubble and boulders.

A devastating landslide hit Upper Rimbi under the Yangthang constituency in West Sikkim around midnight, killing 4 people and leaving one person critically injured, Superintendent of Police, Geyzing, Tshering Sherpa said. Three people died on the spot when the landslide struck.
