Madrid, Dec. 21 -- Real Sociedad confirmed the appointment of American Pellegrino Matarazzo as its new first-team coach on Saturday.
The former Hoffenheim and Stuttgart boss replaces Sergio Francisco, who was sacked a week ago after the team from San Sebastian lost at home to Girona.
Matarazzo has signed an 18-month contract, running until the end of June 2027, with the task of leading the club away from the relegation zone this season.
Matarazzo takes over with Real Sociedad sitting 16th in the table with 17 points from 17 games, his appointment coming in the wake of a 1-1 draw away to bottom side Levante on Saturday afternoon.
