Mumbai, March 15 -- Senior Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut on Sunday alleged that the Election Commission of India was functioning like an "extended branch" of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
He asserted that opposition parties had lost confidence in the poll body following controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls carried out after the Bihar Assembly elections.
Addressing reporters in Mumbai, Raut questioned the independence of the Election Commission and criticised the manner in which it was carrying out its responsibilities. Taking a dig at the poll panel, he remarked that the EC's press conferences might as well take place at the BJP office.
