Kolhapur, Aug. 2 -- Ratnagiri police arrested a man who was trying to smuggle a rare "whale fish vomit" (ambergris), with the seizure valued of Rs 2.50 crore, at Ratnagiri MIDC area early this morning.
According to police, on receiving a tip, the police team laid a trap at Ratnagiri MIDC area and arrested Azaj Ahamad Yusuf Mitkar (42), of Ratnagiri city, who came for smuggling of the fish product.
On being searched, police team found the whale fish vomit valued at more than Rs two crore, and also seized a motorcycle valued Rs 50,000.
Police are investigating the case further.
Ambergris is often referred to as "whale vomit" or "whale poop". It's a waxy, solid material that originates in the digestive system of sperm whales.
