Kakinada, June 5 -- A very rare and yet complex surgery was performed on a woman patient by Apollo hospital doctors here for removal of a fish bone that had pierced through the esophagus and lodged in a major artery near the heart.
A team of doctors of Apollo hospital consisting of Dr V Sivaramakrishna, Dr P Nageswerarao and Dr G Vamsi Chaithanya told media persons at the hospital here on Thursday that such cases were very rare with two or three reported nationwide.
They explained that the patient, 54- year- old Jampa Mangayamma from Biccavolu, had swallowed the fish bone while eating fish curry. The fish bone has eventually passed through the esophagus and lodged in a critical area near the heart.
