Chennai, Oct. 12 -- Various fishermen associations at Rameswaram in Ramanathapuramdistrict of Tamil Nadu has commenced an indefinite strike, which entered the second daytoday, condemndng the frequent arrests and attacks on TN fishermen by the Sri LankanNavy personnel and demanding their immediate release.

The mechanised boat owners, who had embarked on a strike since yesterday, have anchoredtheir boats at the shore and stayed away from venturing into the sea, urging the State andthe Central governments to find a permanent solution to this vexatious issue.

Reports said the owners over 700 mechanised trawlers have been anchored on the shoreat the Rmeswaram jetty to condemn the frequent arrests.
