New Delhi, April 1 -- Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday called for an early decadal and caste census, saying that it is crucial for the economic and social well-being of the country.
Raising the matter during Zero Hour, he said that the present government was causing inordinate delay in conducting the census. Kharge stated that while there is a provision to conduct a census every 10 years, the government seems to have no intention of doing so.
Quoting Mahatma Gandhi, the LoP said, "Just like we have to undergo periodic medical examination to check our body, in the same way caste census is the most important test of any nation."
