New Delhi, Aug. 5 -- The Rajya Sabha today passed the statutory resolution to extend President's Rule in Manipur for six more months. Amid heavy sloganeering by the Opposition in the Upper House, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai moved the resolution. The resolution was adopted via voice vote, with the House adjourned till August 6.

President's Rule was imposed in Manipur on February 13, shortly after Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned amid escalating violence and political instability that had gripped the state for nearly two years.
