Chittorgarh, June 2 -- A young man was shot dead in the Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan, allegedly over a dispute related to illegal sand mining, police said on Monday.

Circle Officer Vinay Choudhary said four unidentified men opened fire on Ajay Singh Jhala, who was having lunch at a hotel near Kota national highway in the Kotwali police station area on Sunday, and fled the scene. Ajay's companions took him to the district hospital, where he was declared dead.

The police registered a case under sections related to murder and other offences based on the statements of the deceased's companions, naming some individuals and including around 35 known miscreants. The police are conducting raids to apprehend the accused.
