Mumbai, Sept. 17 -- In a sharp rebuttal to BJP Mumbai president Ameet Satam, Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator Rais Shaikh said any Mumbaikar, regardless of their community, can become the city's mayor.
Shaikh's remarks came in response to Satam's statement made during the Mumbai BJP's conclave "Vijay Sankalp Melava" in Worli yesterday. Satam had warned that if the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) comes to power in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), "a Khan will become Mumbai's mayor," and asserted that the BJP would not allow "Mumbai's colour to be changed."Hitting out at Satam, the SP MLA stated that his ancestors have shed their blood for the city's soil.
