Raipur, Sept. 26 -- Five workers were killed and several others injured today when an under-construction structure collapsed at the Godavari Steel premises in Chhattisgarh's Raipur district, police said.
The accident occurred in the Silatra industrial area, where the sudden fall of iron beams and scaffolding trapped labourers beneath the debris.
Eyewitnesses reported that more than a dozen workers were engaged in construction when the framework gave way without warning.
Panic spread across the site as some labourers managed to escape while others were crushed under heavy materials. Police and district authorities quickly reached the spot and launched a rescue operation with support from local volunteers.
