Mumbai, Jan. 1 -- As a cold wave grips Maharashtra, the New Year was welcomed with unexpected rain showers in Mumbai during the early hours of the first day of the year. The sudden rainfall caught many citizens off guard, especially those who had stepped out early in the morning.

Light showers were reported in areas such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, Parel and Lalbaug during the pre-dawn hours. Mumbaikars, who had been enjoying the pleasant chill during nights and early mornings over the past few days, were surprised by the unseasonal rain.
