Kolkata, Sept. 25 -- Days after a midnight cloudburst wreaked havoc in Kolkata, life in the city is gradually returning to normal with water receding from most areas, though fears of fresh inundation remain as the weather office has forecast heavy rain over the next few days.
On Tuesday, a month's worth of rain lashed the city in just five hours, coinciding with a high tide in the Hooghly river, leading to massive waterlogging, disruption of traffic, train and metro services, and deaths due to electrocution, eight of them in Kolkata alone.
By today morning, most roads had dried up except for a few low-lying pockets, bringing relief to citizens and Durga Puja organisers, many of whom had suffered damage to pandals and were quick to repair ...
