Chaibasa, Aug. 6 -- : Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is scheduled to appear in person before the MP-MLA Special Court in Chaibasa at 11 am today in connection with a criminal defamation case filed against him by a BJP leader.

The case stems from Gandhi's alleged remarks made during a Congress convention on March 28, 2018, where he reportedly made defamatory statements against leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party. BJP leader Pratap Kumar had subsequently filed a petition in the Chaibasa court.

The case was initially transferred to the Ranchi MP-MLA court in 2020 and later sent back to Chaibasa. Despite summons, Rahul Gandhi did not appear on earlier dates, prompting the court to issue first a bail...
