New Delhi, Dec. 29 -- Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday strongly condemned the assault on Anjel Chakma and his brother Michael in Dehradun, calling it a "horrific hate crime" and warning that sustained political rhetoric and toxic online narratives were normalising violence against minorities and people from the Northeast.

In a post on X, Congress leader Gandhi said hate crimes do not occur in isolation but are the outcome of years of systematic incitement. "Hate doesn't appear overnight. For years now, it is being fed daily, especially to our youth, through toxic content and irresponsible narratives. And it's being normalised by the hate-spewing leadership of the ruling BJP," he said.
