Lucknow, March 13 -- Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that Kanshi Ram worked for social equality and acknowledged that the Congress had not fully succeeded in its responsibilities, which allowed Kanshi Ram's movement to grow.
He remarked that if the party had worked properly earlier, Kanshi Ram might have risen within the Congress itself. Gandhi also said that if Jawaharlal Nehru had been alive, Kanshi Ram could have been a Congress chief minister.
Rahul was addressing a gathering at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Kanshi Ram. The event was organised as part of the "Social Transformation Day" programme.
