New Delhi, Sept. 27 -- Senior advocate R. Venkataramani will continue as the Attorney General for India for the next two years, following the union government's decision to extend his tenure.

Venkataramani, who succeeded KK Venugopal in 2022, was initially appointed for a three-year term set to conclude on September 30, 2025. He has now confirmed that his tenure will run for an additional two years.

Born on April 13, 1950, in Pondicherry, Venkataramani enrolled as a lawyer with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu in July 1977 and moved his practice to the Supreme Court in 1979. In 1997, he was designated as a senior advocate by the Supreme Court.
