Moscow, Aug. 16 -- The summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump has produced a positive outcome, but there is little reason for immediate optimism, Roderick Kiewiet, professor of Political Science at the California Institute of Technology, told Sputnik on Saturday.
"This was a good outcome to the Putin-Trump meeting, but I would urge people not to get too excited. There are plenty of people on both sides of the conflict who will be dissatisfied and will want the fighting to continue," Kiewiet said.
Trump's administration views China as the primary threat to US interests, particularly given ongoing tensions over Taiwan, the professor said.
